Fall 2025 Vaccine Guide for Westlake: Flu, RSV, COVID (Updated August 2025)
Last reviewed: September 09, 2025
When school routines return, and calendars fill up, figuring out fall vaccines can feel like one more puzzle. My patients often ask for a simple plan that covers flu, RSV, and COVID without stacking side effects or requiring three separate trips. This guide lays out what to get, when to get it, and how to combine or space visits based on your health goals.
What matters most this fall
Flu: For most adults, September and October are the best months to get vaccinated, so protection is on board before peak activity. If you miss that window, get vaccinated as soon as possible, as flu often circulates well into spring.
RSV: RSV vaccination for adults is a one-time dose for those who meet criteria, ideally in late summer or early fall, before RSV starts to circulate. If you received an RSV vaccine last season, you are considered complete for now.
COVID-19: For 2025, FDA approvals are limited to adults 65 and older and to people ages 5 through 64 with at least one high-risk condition. We will confirm your eligibility during planning and help you book at a nearby site.
Who needs which shots
Flu vaccine
Recommended every year for nearly everyone 6 months and older. Adults often choose September or October for convenience and durability. If your fall is busy, take the first practical appointment you can get.
RSV vaccine
CDC recommends a single dose for all adults 75 and older and for adults 50 to 74 who are at increased risk for severe RSV due to conditions such as chronic heart or lung disease, significant immunocompromise, severe obesity, or residence in a nursing home. If you have already received RSV in a prior season, no repeat dose is recommended at this time. Vaccinating August through October offers the most benefit.
COVID-19 vaccine
As of August 27, 2025, updated COVID vaccines are approved for adults 65+ and younger people with qualifying high-risk conditions. If you qualify, we will help you time it around travel, recent infection, and pharmacy availability.
Can you combine vaccines in one pharmacy visit?
Often, yes.
Flu and COVID can be given at the same visit if you are due for both. Use separate injection sites to reduce soreness. There is no required waiting period if you prefer to schedule them a week apart.
RSV and flu can also be coadministered. Data are more limited, and antibody levels may be a bit lower when RSV is given with other respiratory vaccines, but the clinical significance is uncertain. If you are sensitive to side effects, spacing doses by one to two weeks is a reasonable approach.
Side effect smart moves
Choose different arms when getting two shots the same day, hydrate well, keep a light evening, and plan gentle movement the next day. Most reactions are mild and short-lived.
A simple timing ladder for Westlake patients
Use this as a flexible template. We will tailor it to your eligibility, schedule, and travel, then book you at the pharmacy or health system you choose.
Step 1: Lock in flu by the end of October.
Book a pharmacy appointment in September or October so protection is in place before Ohio’s late-fall uptick. If you have an annual exam or telehealth check-in with us, we will finalize your plan and place any needed documentation in your portal before your appointment.
Step 2: Add RSV if you qualify and have not had it.
If you are 75 years or older or 50 to 74 with risk factors, schedule an RSV vaccination between August and October. You can pair it with your flu visit or space it by a week if you prefer to track reactions. Remember, RSV is one and done for now.
Step 3: Schedule a COVID-19 if you are eligible this season.
If you qualify under current approvals, you may receive COVID and the flu at the same visit, or separate by a week based on preference. If you recently had COVID, we will personalize timing during your planning call.
Two easy pathways
One-and-done: Book a single pharmacy visit and receive flu plus either RSV or COVID if you are due. Save the third for a short follow-up appointment.
Slow-and-steady:
Week 1: Flu
Week 2: RSV if eligible
Week 3: COVID if eligible

Frequently asked questions
Do you give shots at your Westlake office?
No. We do not vaccinate in the office. We can help you plan, answer questions, and schedule at a pharmacy or health system that is convenient for you.
Can I get all three in one day if I am eligible?
Many pharmacies can administer multiple vaccines during a single appointment. Expect a higher chance of temporary local reactions. If you prefer to space them, a week between shots is a simple approach, and there is no required interval.
What if I have a big presentation or travel coming up?
Avoid stacking vaccines the day before a high-stakes event. Take one per week over two or three weeks. If you need faster protection, book a single visit and plan a low-key evening.
I have a complex medical history. How do I know what is right for me?
Schedule a brief telehealth consult. We will review your chart, medications, and prior reactions, then provide a clear plan and book your appointments with an external site.
